Below is how BJAEC teaches math & science to each grade level

Mathematics Curriculum

Preschool

 

  • Making math real by teaching it in the context of preschoolers’ everyday lives–at school, at home, and in the community.
  • Develops logical thinking skill and number sense through a variety of counters (blocks, large beads, picture cards etc.)
  • Talk students through games and activities involving math.
Kindergarten 1 (Pre-K)

 

  • Making math real by teaching it in the context of preschoolers’ everyday lives–at school, at home, and in the community.
  • Integrating Singaporean Math to develop logical thinking skills, number sense and basic math operational skills (addition and subtraction).
  • Use of model bars and number bonds

 

Kindergarten 2 (kindergarten)

 

  • Making math real by teaching it in the context of preschoolers’ everyday lives–at school, at home, and in the community.
  • Integrating Singaporean Math to develop logical thinking skills, number sense and basic math operational skills (addition and subtraction).
  • Use of model bars and number bonds.
Grade 1
  • Making math real by teaching it in the context of preschoolers’ everyday lives–at school, at home, and in the community.

  • Learn to observe actual life situations and solving them using concepts learned.
  • Making small trips to the nearest supermarkets or store to apply acquired mathematical skills.

Science Curriculum

Preschool

 

  • Engage students in activities that enable them to explore scientific concepts
  • Leads children activities that spark their curiosity and imagination.

 

Kindergarten 1 (Pre-K)

 

  • Engage students to explore and discover scientific concepts through guided activities
  • Leads children activities that spark their curiosity and imagination.
  • Engages students in cooperative learning where they can have a direct interaction with instructional materials or through observing a demonstration by a peer or an adult.

 

Kindergarten 2 (kindergarten)
  • Engage students to explore and discover scientific concepts with less supervision
  • Engages students in cooperative learning where they can have a direct interaction with instructional materials or through observing a demonstration by a peer or an adult.
  • Expose children to outdoor classroom activities to develop scientific skills like observing and classifying
    • For example, when the topic is all about plants, the teacher can bring them in a garden and the children will observe their characteristics

 

Grade 1
  • Engage students to explore and discover scientific concepts with less supervision
  • Engages students in cooperative learning where they can have a direct interaction with instructional materials or through observing a demonstration by a peer or an adult.
  • Expose children to outdoor classroom activities to develop scientific skills
  • Create projects that shows application of scientific concepts
  • Engaging students that facilitates individual learning by building their own concepts and through interactions with others.
